Creativity & movement
A well-rounded education extends beyond traditional academics. Creative Expression and Physical Expression programs are designed to nurture the whole student, encouraging self-discovery, artistic exploration, and physical well-being. These areas are integral to students’ development, fostering skills that complement and enhance their academic learning.
FOSTERING CREATIVITY
Recent research highlights the significant potential for creativity in middle school-aged students. With rapidly changing brains, adolescents at this stage are primed to excel in creative and novel tasks. This potential is taken to heart at Millennium, where creative skills are fostered in a safe space, nurturing the expressiveness and passion of students.
DIVERSE ARTISTIC OPPORTUNITIES
Creative expression can take many forms at Millennium. Each term, new electives spanning performing and visual arts are offered. Through these diverse and dynamic offerings, every student has the opportunity to find their unique voice and avenue for expression. Students learn the fundamentals of design, explore music through voice and instruments, delve into dance through movement and choreography, and have the opportunity to perform onstage or design theatrical sets.
HOLISTIC DEVELOPMENT THROUGH CREATIVITY
The context is as important as the content in creative education. By cultivating a rich and supportive environment, students are helped to realize their creative potential, equipping them with skills that will serve them well beyond their middle school years. Fostering creativity is essential to the holistic development of students, preparing them to innovate and inspire in whatever paths they choose to pursue.
PHYSICAL EXPRESSION
The approach to Physical Expression (PE) at Millennium goes beyond traditional athletics by incorporating elements of Mind-Body integration. Each course is grounded in somatic awareness, where students not only learn to master physical practices but also explore how their bodies serve as vehicles for self-expression.
DIVERSE PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES
Our PE program includes a wide range of activities that vary from term to term. Students participate in sports like futsal, boxing, volleyball, broomball, soccer, and functional training. Yoga is also offered to foster flexibility and inner calm. Uniquely, students are encouraged to create their own games, coach peers, and share responsibilities in preparing and breaking down activities.
INTEGRATING MINDFULNESS & WHOLE SELF SKILLS
While maintaining a foundation in sports, the PE program emphasizes whole self skills. Daily classes are grounded with mindfulness, values-driven goal-setting, and collaborative teamwork. This community-based approach helps students develop leadership skills, enhance their understanding of teamwork, and cultivate a sense of community. By integrating mindfulness and whole self skills into the PE program, students not only engage in physical activity but also grow in self-awareness and interpersonal skills.
