Technology & Digital Skills
Millennium harnesses technology to enhance learning while preserving essential human connections. Our approach to AI, technology, and media is progressive yet grounded in research, preparing students for the digital future while fostering a balanced and mindful relationship with technology.
CHROMEBOOKS
Chromebooks serve as essential learning tools, facilitating access to information, collaborative projects, and digital literacy. Students also have access to iPads, cameras, and other technology based on class projects.
POLICIES
Our students researched the effects of cell phones and other personal devices on the wellbeing of adolescents, and afterwards they created a no-personal devices policy. No personal devices (phones, smartwatches) are allowed during the school day. Students drop them off when they arrive at school each day. This encourages:
- Face-to-face interaction
- Active participation
- Social skill development
Our overall approach ensures technological proficiency, while maintaining engagement in the physical classroom environment and prioritizing real-life connection.
AI EDUCATION & ETHICS
STEM Quests delve into responsible AI use, helping students understand its biases, limitations, and societal impacts. By integrating AI into the curriculum, students learn not only how to use these powerful tools but also to critically analyze their ethical implications.
TECHNOLOGY AS AN ENHANCEMENT
Technology at Millennium is viewed as an enhancement to the curriculum rather than a replacement for human interaction. Digital tools are leveraged to create interactive and engaging learning experiences, such as:
- Virtual labs in science classes
- Digital art projects
- 3D-printing in our Maker Space
- Collaborative online platforms
However, our core educational philosophy remains centered on community building, collaboration, and developing interpersonal and whole self skills.
RESEARCH-BASED APPROACH
This approach is supported by research indicating that thoughtful technology use can significantly enhance learning outcomes without detracting from students’ social and emotional development.
